Nursing Field of Study
Overview
Senate Bill 148 of the 75th Texas Legislature (1997) mandated Field of Study curricula. The Field of Study curricula, along with core curricula, are intended to facilitate the transferability of courses among Texas public colleges and universities. All public four-year institutions are required to accept Coordinating Board-approved Field of Study courses in fulfillment of lower-division requirements for bachelor’s degrees in majors that correspond to the Field of Study.
The Nursing Field of Study Curriculum is intended for baccalaureate degree seeking nursing students who plan to take their prerequisite and core curriculum courses at a Texas public institution and apply to a public Texas four-year college, university, or health-related institution with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
Students who wish to transfer from UH to another institution shall not be required to repeat courses transferred as part of the field of study curriculum. Completion of the field of study curriculum shall not prevent a receiving institution from requiring additional lower-division courses that may be necessary for specific degree programs. Because of the complexity of requirements, students must plan very carefully and work with an advisor/counselor.
If a student transfers with an incomplete Field of Study, then each completed Field of Study course transfers and applies to the to the degree program, and the institution may require the student to complete additional lower-division courses.
